Limited Space | Art Week Opening Ceremony
Art Show + Dance Party

80+ Artists | 2 DJs | 1 Shared Experience

No Cover Charge, One Night Only

For this 3rd edition of Limited Space we are partnering with Art Week Des Moines. Art Week is an annual, citywide celebration of local art. From June 21st - 28th, play mini golf, find art and meet artists. Visit artweekdesmoines.com for complete schedule.

Come to see the best artists Des Moines has to offer and then dance the night away with Lyndrum and DJ Rock Paper Scissors.

In a society that prioritizes the virtual, the real, art can point us in the right direction. But, how does an artist make a first impression? How will they evoke a strong experience through a static image?

It’s a daunting responsibility for even the most talented among us. To balance message with form, while driving the sentiment home to the viewer, borders on sorcery. To do it in less than 25 square feet is a master craft. And that’s precisely what we have called our artists to do. We have summoned the most talented eye poets in the city and given them each 25 square feet to share an experience with you.

Book Signing and Wine Tasting at Artisan Gallery 218
Join us for a book signing and wine tasting and learn about Iowa Wines! 'A History of Iowa Wine: Vines of the Prairie' with author John N Peragine will be discussed and available for signing and purchase. Iowa has a history with grapevines that goes back more than a century. New York lawyer Hiram Barney obtained a tract of land in southeast Iowa as part of the Half-Breed program following the American Indian Wars and created the White Elk Winery. German settlers in Amana tended community vineyards for communal wines. Before Prohibition, the Council Bluffs Grape Growers Association grew grapes and shipped them eastward by the ton. In the early 1900s, the state was among the nation's top producers of grapes. Pesticides, weather and government subsidies ended the time of the vines of the prairie until their recent return. Author John N. Peragine details the rise, fall and resurgence of the industry in the Hawkeye State.

A Viewing - Art on Death & Reconciliation
Join artist Amy Putney Koenig. Come for a special viewing of my photos, paintings and collage pieces combined to create an installation I specifically designed to celebrate an end to our generational family trauma. These works look at the natural certainty of death, the art we make to cope and heal from our loss and the forgiveness required to move on and let go of the pain, sorrow, addiction and negativity that can go along with unexpected death.

My family was devastated over the loss of a child in 1968. This Viewing creation is an end to the tragedy and blame for all involved in her accident in order to give way to love, forgiveness, and exuberance. This is the final ritual of art in letting go of generational family trauma this event created. Come see and celebrate! View Facebook Event Page https://www.facebook.com/events/1515203708614676/
